JEAN DE FLORETTE.(Weekend)

The hunchback from the city rejoices in the beautiful surroundings of his inherited farm in lush Provence. "My happiness lies in the return to nature," says Jean (Gerard Depardieu).

But he hasn't yet learned that nature can be random and cruel. And he doesn't realize that human nature can be even more cruel, and much less random.

Two of his neighbors, coveting his property, have plugged and concealed a spring that runs through his land. For a water supply for crops and his family, Jean must either get sufficient rainfall or portage water from a source a mile away.
