WIPO ASSIGNS PATENT TO SIEMENS FOR "SYNCHRONIZING DEVICE AND SYNCHRONIZING METHOD FOR OPERATING ISLAND NETWORKS" (GERMAN INVENTORS)

GENEVA, March 20 -- Publication No. WO/2011/029805 was published on March 17.

Title of the invention: "SYNCHRONIZING DEVICE AND SYNCHRONIZING METHOD FOR OPERATING ISLAND NETWORKS."

Applicants: SIEMENS AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT (DE).

Inventors: Reinhard Maier (DE) and Gerd Griepentrog (DE).

According to the abstract posted by the World Intellectual Property Organization: "The invention relates to an island network always kept synchronous with an integrated network. To this end, the frequency and phase shift of the integrated network are measured and provided with a high-precision timestamp, for example from a global positioning system. Said information is transmitted to the controller of the island network by means of the Internet or cellular radio. The island network is continuously synchronized with the frequency and phase shift of the integrated network. A clock based on the island network is also updated using the timestamp. If the data connection fails, the synchronization is maintained using the clock."

The patent was filed on Sept. 7, 2010 under Application No. PCT/EP2010/063074.
